Winter Skin Care Routine
It’s January, and even though we’re in California and it’s not FREEZING the winter chill has set in and the air gets crisp, our skin often starts to feel the bite. Colder winds, dry indoor heat, and the drop in temperature can leave my skin feeling parched, tight, and a little bit irritated. But … my winter skincare to the rescue! While we're all about cozy sweaters and hot chocolate, giving my skin a little extra TLC this time of year is a total game changer and seriously so incredibly necessary. In this post, im going to chat about why my winter skincare is a must and how you can keep your glow going strong, no matter how cold it gets outside using things that work for me in my routine.
Winter Skin Care Routine
Before diving into the steps of a winter skin care routine, it's important to understand how winter can impact your skin. With fluctuating temperatures, drier air, and less sun, your skin undergoes so many changes that may leave it feeling dull and irritated. You might notice some dryness, flakiness, or even redness. Switching up your skincare routine will help you address these specific challenges and keep your skin protected from moisture loss, sensitivity, and irritation. By understanding how winter affects your skin, you’ll better appreciate the importance of each step in your new skincare routine!!
How Does Winter Affect Skin?
Colder Temperatures: When the air gets all chilly, it basically sucks the moisture out of your skin. Your skin might feel super tight, flaky, and sometimes even crack. Not fun, right? It's like your skin’s begging for a drink of water!
Indoor Heating: Okay, so you're kozy inside with the heat blasting, but guess what? That toasty air is basically draining the life (and moisture) out of your skin. You might not feel it, but your skin is dehydrating in the background.
Decreased Humidity: Winter brings that dry, cold air, and if you're living in a place with low humidity, your skin's basically fighting to stay hydrated. The air’s like a sponge that sucks up all the moisture, and your skin’s like “girl, help me!” Not fun.
UV Rays: Just because it’s cold doesn’t mean you can skip sunscreen. UV rays are still coming for your skin, especially when they bounce off snow or ice. Yep, they can cause damage even in winter. SPF is your BFF—don’t forget it!
Increased Sensitivity: The winter air can make your skin extra sensitive, and if you already have conditions like eczema or rosacea, it can be a real struggle. Harsh weather can trigger flare-ups, redness, or irritation, and no one wants to deal with that. So, your skin’s definitely gonna need some extra TLC.
How To Take Care Of Your Skin During Winter
Now that we understand how winter affects our skin, let’s look at how to take care of it. A solid winter skincare routine is all about hydration, protection, and nourishment. The following steps will help you maintain a healthy glow throughout the season. Whether you have dry, oily, or sensitive skin, these steps can be adjusted to suit your skin type.

Keep your skin happy and healthy all season long by giving it what it craves—moisture, moisture, moisture! Don’t forget to listen to what your skin's saying (she’s trying to tell you something!) and adjust your routine to match your skin type.
