How to Get Perfectly Imperfect Family Pictures

Thank you to Hanes for sponsoring this post.

Don’t get me wrong. I’m no expert. But if you’ve followed me for some time, you know I’ve taken a few family pics in my time.

I feel like family pictures are one of the MOST stressful things a mother has ever done. From picking out the outfits to finding the perfect location to making sure everyone is fed and napped and happy. It’s exhausting if you ask me! But I think I’ve found a few ways to make it a little easier on the whole fam!

How to Get Perfectly Imperfect Family Pictures

Outfits

First off, make sure whatever you pick out to wear represents you guys as a family. And is comfy! Don’t try and wear something you’re not comfortable in because it will show all over faces in the pics and just look unnatural. Also, you guys know how much I love matching but if you’re not matching, try and coordinate colors without being too matchy matchy! Switch up the patterns!

For example, a plaid shirt with a solid dress or a striped shirt with a floral dress! Whether you’re going for neutral colors or lots of color, stick to the theme! I usually like colorful outfits for outdoors and more neutrals for indoors but you can totally mix it up! There’s no right way! For example, I loooooved wearing this ComfortWash Garment Dyed Sweatshirt and Stretch Jersey Leggings from Hanes in these pics because that’s what I would be wearing on a normal basis – same with the rest of my family, who are all wearing Hanes sweats too. We all love Hanes! Plus, their bras and underwear are some of my faves – like the Cotton Sporty Boy Briefs and the Perfect Coverage ComfortFlex Fit WirefreeBra.

The neutral colors flow with the decor in our house and who doesn’t want to be all cozied up in their living room in comfy clothes?! I love pictures that depict your real life. Those are the memories you’re going to want!

No pressure!

Next off, don’t put too much pressure on yourself. My kids almost always end up falling asleep on the way to pictures. I hate it but that’s how life goes. When we get to the location, I try to let them wake up for a few minutes before forcing them into pictures. Normally, outdoor pictures are SO much easier for us because the kids love exploring. Catching them in that raw, natural state creates some of the best pictures! When we do pictures indoors at our house, they just want to go run around like crazies and get toys and make messes because that’s what they’re comfortable doing!

And lastly, bribes!

I am allll for the bribes! Especially for the husbands! Haha! I know they’re normally the ones that hate pictures the most! A little bribe never hurt to get through some family pictures!

And now, a little bribe for all of you to help make your family photos easier, or at least more comfortable!
