Horton Hears a Howdy! Dallas Guide

Dallas Guide

Howdy y’all! We did Dallas and we LOVED it! The last time I had visited Dallas was 10-15 years ago and it was for a cheer completion so I had never really explored the Dallas area. I had no idea what to expect but if I did have any expectations, they were definitely surpassed! There is SO much to do there and it was all so fun!

When we first got to Dallas, we stayed at The Thompson. It was a gorgeous hotel in what seemed like the downtown area but locals were saying it’s more in the uptown area. Location was so so but it was definitely walking distance to some places and a short Uber ride to others! The rooms were spacious and newly renovated so they were super nice! It also had a really cute pool area!

Where we ate

lots of these were recommended by you, so thank you!

  • Meso Maya (Mexican food…food & vibe were so so, nothing to write home about, no Malibu)

  • The Rustic (live music, so fun, very Texas, and food was great, no Malibu but I had John daily’s instead)

  • Mi Cocina (Mexican food, it was good, atmosphere was crowded and really loud, no Malibu)

  • Bowl & Barrel (bowling, super fun and food was great, no Malibu)

  • Joe Leo (Mexican food, they had a bottle of Malibu cuz they knew I was coming, atmosphere was really really cute)

After staying at the Thompson for a few nights, we moved over to The Gaylord because I heard it was a cool resort that is super fun for kids (hotel is huge, rooms are so so) but they do have multiple restaurants on property (bar food, Mexican, Italian (this restaurant was soooo good, really good lemon drops)! They also have a water park (SUPER fun), indoor pool, outdoor pool & jacuzzi).

What we did and other places we ate:

  • AT&T stadium…this is where the Cowboys play! It was really cool to tour! Tour was 2 hours long so the kids were over it by the end but they liked seeing it all too!

  • Stock yards (it was SOOO hot when we went but the cattle were really cool to watch walk down the road, they do it twice a day at 11 & 4)

  • Billy bobs (biggest honky tonk, has bars, sometimes has food, arcade games, pool tables…VERY Texas and was really fun. This is where we took the pics on the bull)

  • Joe T Garcia’s (Mexican food, this was by the stockyards. It was really good, they make these fried tortillas with cheese on top & green salsa that were so good, they had Malibu)

  • Esparzas (Mexican food, located close to The Gaylord, it was really good, queso was bomb, they had Malibu)

I was hesitant on staying in Texas for as long as we did but we were all SO happy we did! I feel like we barely even made a dent in all the fun things we could have done! I’m excited to go back one day!
