I threw together a list of items that I felt like were good to have around for a newborn! I tried to keep it short and sweet because newborns don’t need A TON and every baby and parent are so different so just remember to follow your instinct, do your research, and get and do what feels right for you and your baby. Like the saying goes “different strokes for different folks” because one person’s must have might not be everyone’s must have!

We got a lot of these items above for baby Kampbell (or we got something similar that does the same thing)! Here’s a list of everything we got!

Baby Essentials

Glider (or a rocker)

You’re going to be spending a lot of time holding your baby and feeding them so this is a must have for me! This Oilo Studio one is definitely pricey but we wanted a glider that reclined (and we wanted it motorized so it wasn’t a loud jerky recline).

Boppy (or My Breast Friend)

We’ve always used a boppy (especially for the kids to use while holding baby bro) and I’ve heard a lot of people who like the Breast Friend even more but I’ve never personally tried that one!

Diapers & wipes

I mean pretty sure these are a no brainer! Haha! But the Huggies Special Delivery are what we’re using right now!

Pacifier

Kampbell isn’t taking one yet but it’s good to have one around in case your baby likes them or needs some extra soothing!

Bottles

We got some ComoTomo bottles to have for when we start giving him some of the breast milk I have stored! The 3 most popular bottle brands that you all recommended were Comotomo, Tomee Tippee & Dr. Browns.

Stroller

Everyone needs a stroller, right?! We went with the Uppababy Vista since it has double seats + a board for a 3rd kid to stand & ride on!

Car seat

We got the Doona which is his car seat that turns into a stroller! It’s the most amazing thing EVER!

Laundry detergent

I like to get a baby detergent to make sure it’s safe and gentle for them! Noodle & Boo has one now and it is my all time favorite baby scent!

Swaddles

Lots & lots of swaddles! We go through them quickly and I like making sure he always has a clean one so I would suggest getting extras of these! So far I looove the Copper Pearl ones and the Cozys ones!

Sound machine

We got the Hushh and have been using it every night! It’s super small and portable!

Owlet

This little gadget connects to your baby’s foot and monitors their breathing. It alerts you if their oxygen levels get too low! Gives you a peace of mind while they’re sleeping!

Baby monitor

We haven’t had to use this yet but I know we will use it a ton once he sleeps in his crib. We got the Infant Optics brand but we haven’t really tested it out yet so I’m not sure if we would recommend it or not! I found it on Amazon because it had super high reviews and it doesn’t have WiFi. I didn’t want one with WiFi because I’ve heard those can get hacked.

Lounger

We have the Snuggle Me Organic and the Dockatot. We’ve been using the Snuggle Me so far and are loving it!!! Perfect little thing to carry from room to room and he feels so cozy in it!

Burp cloths

We actually haven’t used a ton of these but they’re always good to have on hand! I like to use them to lay down on my bed before I change him in the middle of the night so no pee or poop gets on my bed!

Bassinet

We got the Aristot bassinet because it was gifted to us and it’s SO beautiful! But the two most popular bassinets I’ve heard about are the Snoo and Halo! I’ve heard mixed reviews on the Snoo and we chose not to get it since it’s not super travel friendly. I’d rather Kamp be used to sleeping in something that we can easily take on the go since we love to travel! We had the Halo with Kolly but she didn’t end up loving it. It does seem super convenient if it ends up working out for you though!

Bath

You need something for your baby to sit in when they are ready for baths! We went with the Angelcare because I read tons of great reviews for it and it seemed like a great, easy to use, comfy for baby, option!

Bouncer/rocker/swing

You definitely don’t need to get all 3 like we did but having at least one around is a good idea so you have somewhere to lay your baby down while you go to the bathroom, make yourself something to eat, or just need a little break! We got the Mamaroo, the Fisher Price bouncer, and the Charlie Crane wooden rocker! We haven’t decided which one Kampbell likes the best quite yet but we’ve been putting him in the Mamaroo the most since it moves on its own!

Shampoo/body wash & lotion

Like I was saying, Noodle & Boo is my all time favorite baby scent so this is what we use for bath time! No better smell & leaves your baby’s skin so soft! I use the body wash on myself right now too!

Crib mattress

We went with the Newton Baby this time around because I’ve heard so many amazing things about it! First off, its breathable which is amazing and secondly, the whole thing is completely washable!

Haaka

Also, now that Kampbell is here, I would definitely recommend the Haaka (or any other milk saving devices like the Elvie Curve or Milk Saver Shells) to any breast feeding mamas! It’s been the best thing ever for me! It collects milk from the opposite boob that you’re nursing on so that no milk goes to waste (because normally that milk would just end up in your bra or running down your belly)! You can then bottle feed that milk to your baby! I’ve been storing it in baggies in the freezer for now and I already have a huge supply saved up!

Knotted tie gowns

And one last thing I would recommend are the knotted tie gowns! Kampbell sleeps in these every night and I just love how easy they are to change him in the middle of the night. You don’t have to completely undress your baby with these or fight to get a leg out or in! They’re super convenient and comfy!

xoxo
